This gorgeous sarong is made with a combination of the traditional technique of handdrawn batik (tulis) and cold wax (malam dingin), and is from Solo, Central Java.
The cold wax technique uses resist dyeing principle but with a screen printed cold wax so it is not hand stamped nor handwritten, therefore often considered as a mix of traditional and modern production technique. But since this piece also combines authentic handwritten batik technique on some parts of the design (see the very intricate yellow dots in the flowers which give this piece a very unique sense of life and brightness), we can say this still has a high value of craftsmanship.
