Ikat Handkerchief Skirt
Ikat Handkerchief Skirt
I've always wanted a flared skirt with cornered edges on the bottom. This silhouette is called the handkerchief style, because it looks like a big square handkerchief, cut in the middle for the waist and the skirt drapes into a flared skirt with 4 corners. When I found this red and pink striped ikat, it was perfect for this design! This ikat textile was made in Jepara, on a semi-manual weaving tool called the ATBM (Alat Tenun Bukan Mesin) which basically means a weaving machine but it's manually operated without the help of electricity or computerization). This type of weaving (often called Tenun ATBM) is therefore more affordable than the fully handmade ones and suits the needs for every day wear.
Elastic waist on the back, covered with a long strap that can be tied in the back or front.
100% Cotton
